Description of Project:
Presently, farmers plant, grow and dry different herbs & spices at their homes. The Co-operative society now has a centralized drying facility, which was acquired through Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) (Rural Economic Development Initiatives).Based on this achievement the group will be able to buy fresh herbs & spices from farmers across South Manchester and dry these products effectively to be sold to Tea Manufacturers. The Cooperative society has two (2) containers that will be used as a drying facility and the other will be used for an office. Commercial operation will commence in March 2015.Aim of the project
To provide pathogenic micro-organism free herbs & spices to their suppliers & potential suppliers. To provide employment for residents To provide drying & grinding services to interested parties To undertake research into processing techniques and additional usage of approved products To expand to include packaging and production of by-productsObjectives
