SDC National Community Cricket Competition Kicks Off


Jamaica’s cricket enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement as the highly anticipated SDC National Community Cricket Competition commenced on March 22, 2024, and will continue until August 11, 2024 with the grand final venue set for Chedwin Park, St. Catherine. Now in its seventeenth season, this year’s event, operating under the theme “Building Communities…Building Jamaica,” promises unparalleled excitement and community engagement.

A total of 136 T/20 cricket teams and 23 T/10 Masters teams, representing approximately 200 communities, have secured their spots in the competition following the close of registrations on February 29, 2024. Matches will be held across 54 venues island-wide with a total of 268 matches scheduled for the season.

The competition aims to foster community development through various means such as social intervention strategies, promoting family values, supporting small businesses, and encouraging youth inclusion and community participation.

Divided into parish and national phases, the tournament features a variety of rounds including Rally, Elimination, Round Robin, Knock-Out, and Parish Finals in the parish phase, and Round Robin, Knock-Out, and National Finals in the national phase.

Cash prizes await the champions at each phase, with the national phase offering substantial rewards including a first-place prize of $1,500,000. Winners are also required to give back to their communities by donating 15% of their prize money to community projects.

The next matches are scheduled for Sunday, May 5, 2024 in all parishes, with special featured matches at Chedwin Park, St. Catherine, starting at 10:00 am between Bridgeport Super-sixers and nine-time St. Catherine Parish Champions Old Harbour Cricket Club, followed by St. Johns East vs. Innswoods Heartlands Crocodile at 2:00 pm.

Enthusiasts and communities are encouraged to join this celebration of cricket and community development. The event is made possible by sponsors including the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development, Courts Ready Cash, LASCO Financial Services Limited, Wray & Nephew, HEART/NSTA Trust, IRIE FM, National Housing Trust, Jamaica Cricket Association, and the Social Development Commission.
