The Social Development Commission Two in One SDC/Petrojam National Community Basketball and Netball Competition Finals
The coveted SDC/Petrojam National Community Netball and Basketball Competition ended its season with four-time defending netball champions Mandeville United (Manchester) retaining their title and Rae Town Raptors (Kingston and St. Andrew) becoming the first basketball community champions. The grand finals were hosted on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Breds, Treasure Beach Complex, St. Elizabeth.
The forty-minute netball match drew extensive cheers as Mandeville United showed their dominance dismissing Lionel Town 30 points to 23 points at the end of the game.
The first and second quarter ended back-to-back for Mandeville United as their top goal shooter and most valuable player Sasha Mitchell made the best of every chance that came her way keeping her team ahead in the third quarter and fourth.

Mandeville United walked away with the top prize of $400,000 and the National Championship Trophy, while second place winner, Lionel Town from Clarendon, received $200,000 and medals. Third place winner, Eltham PYC, from St. Ann took home a $100,000 cash prize and medals after defeating Heartease from St. Thomas who pocketed $50,000.

Meanwhile, the finals of the SDC/Petrojam National Basketball Community Competition had spectators glued to their seats for the duration of the game. Rae Town Raptors from Kingston and St. Andrew did not have an easy time scoring against the Granville Jaguars from St. James. From the start, Rae Town Raptors showed they were the stronger team scoring 23 points against Granville Jaguars who scored 15 points.
The second half of the game saw Granville Jaguars closely trailing the Raptors by points standing. Top goal scorer and most valuable player Shaquille Allen performed exceptionally well for the Kingston and St. Andrew based team to end the match against their opponent 47 points to 38 points.
Rae Town Raptors took home the championship trophy and a cash prize of $250,000. First and second runners-up Grandville Jaguars from St. James and Edge Water Magics from St. Catherine took home medals and cash prizes of $125,000 and $75,000 respectively.

A minimum 15% and 10% of the prize monies received by all netball and basketball teams respectively will go towards the teams’ community development project.
